CORAL uses advanced equipment and technology from the United States and Mexico. The clinic offers diagnosis, treatment and continuous support to its patients by the audiologists and prosthesis technician on staff. The clinic is outfitted with the appropriate equipment and infrastructure to carry out hearing tests (audiometries and tympanometries), issue hearing aids, provide hearing aid repair, supply batteries and offer other health services to approximately 1,000 people with hearing problems annually.
Most patients seek out the clinic upon referral from the Early Detection Program or upon recommendation by those who know our work and by personnel at the “Anna Seethaler” People’s Hospital since the clinic is located inside of their facilities.
Patients receive a hearing test that takes place in a noise-proof room in order to determine the level of hearing loss. According to the test results, the audiologist makes a diagnosis and issues the individual recommendations. If hearing aids are necessary, the patient is informed of their cost. The patient can opt to pay for them on his or her own and CORAL assists in this process by sharing pertinent information about the suppliers. The other option for the patient is to wait for a hearing aid donation from CORAL. A follow up is done by the doctor and by the social worker. Admission to the Therapy School depends on the age of the patient, the level of hearing loss, how far they live from Oaxaca and whether or not there is an opening at the School. .
