We have created this space keeping in mind that all people in one way or another have some relation to deafness. Parents of children with hearing loss, children of parents whose hearing abilities have lessened over the years, siblings, friends, professors, students, and people in general who, for one reason or another are close to someone whose ears work in a different way.
When we refer to hearing loss, a new world of complicated terms arises. Understanding these terms is essential and is a good way to start to inform yourself. We encounter terms such as “Otoacoustic Emissions”, “Evoked Potentials of the cerebral stem”, “tones burst”, and “hypoacusis.” Questions arise, such as “Why are people born deaf?”, “Is deafness reversible?”, and “How do deaf people learn to read?”.
Statistical information about deafness in Mexico and Oaxaca is something in which we would like to be well informed, but the reality is that this type of information is difficult to come by. The purpose of our library space is to build a resource that can meet this need and provide a clearer idea about the current situation of deafness in our region. Please help us build this resource by contributing literature or media that fill this informational gap.
It is important to mention that CORAL does not necessarily share the opinions or perspectives proposed by the authors of the documents compiled here.
