Our Hearing and Speech Education Coordinator travels to Nicaragua

On January 25 - 27, Coral’s Hearing and Speech Education Coordinator, Mariana Mejía traveled to the city of Managua, Nicaragua to attend a training course on Primary Ear and Hearing Care. The course was organized by the Christian Blind Mission (CBM), an international organization working to improve the quality of life of handicapped people in the world´s poorest countries. Upon her return, Mariana told us a little about her trip.

“Attending the course in Managua was an enriching experience in many aspects. First, in the professional aspect, it was an opportunity to brush up on theories about the anatomy and function of the ear, which I had learned during my masters program. Also, I gained a greater understanding of the current situation in developing countries (including Mexico) regarding auditory health and the lack of knowledge and action by health care providers to prevent and attend to ear problems and hearing loss. Understanding these issues is of utmost importance for me in my job at CORAL.
